Three stars, three masters, three artists.

Dear Art lovers, and Art collectors !

Today I will focus on three artists, masters in their respective fields: a ceramist, a sculptor and a painter. Enjoy discovering or rediscovering them with me.
Finally, I picked out some art events that seem special to me and not to miss if you happen to be in the surroundings.

SUZY SOLIDOR BY TAMARA DE LEMPICKA - 1898-1980

I remember being surprised to meet a painting of Tamara De Lempicka in a little Castle located in a small medieval village named the Haut de Cagnes. I was even more amazed when I noticed that close to it were hanging other portraits of the same woman, all painted by famous artists connected to the south of France : Picasso, Braque, Picabia, Dufy, Kisling, Cocteau... It turned out that this woman was a popular performer of the early 30's named Suzy Solidor. After her parisian career she moved to Cagnes sur Mer and later donated all her portraits to the Grimaldi Castle. For a 3 Euro ticket, you can access the building and discover unexpected treasures.
Portrait of Suzy Solidor - 1933 - oil on wood - Chateau de Cagnes- Grimaldi Museum, Place Grimaldi - Haut de Cagnes.

Tamara De Lempicka was born in Poland. Like many artists she moved to Paris where she became one of the most
demanded european society painters. She portrayed the high society and painted erotic nudes and still lives. Her style reminds us of the cubism of Fernand Léger and is different in the same time. Her elegant and chic decadent lines have made her the representant of the Art Deco style in painting. Famous for her beauty, her parties and love affairs, she had become a stylish icon.(source: The 20th Century Artbook - ed. Phaidon. and 1st-art-gallery)

GEORGES JOUVE - 1910-1964

I discovered the work of Georges Jouve while working with antique dealers and art galleries. I was completely charmed by his creativity and talent. This artist realized his first works in 1941. Mainly devoted to pottery, he created many decorative items. In 1945, he moved to Paris where he refined his art and found an interest in sculptures, creating acclaimed pieces. Throughout his career, he collaborated with many reknowned artists and suceeded in occupying a firm place in the world of Decorative Arts.

HENRI GAUDIER- BRZESKA - 1891-1915

Henri Gaudier-Brzeska was killed in the trenches in 1915 at the age of 23. Could you believe that the sculpture of the photo is a piece created in the early 20th century by such a young sculptor ?
Henri Gaudier-Brzeska was born in France and studied in England. He was living in London when he enlisted in the French army in 1914. During this time he made wood carvings and continued to exhibit in London. Draughtsman and sculptor, he followed the influence of Auguste Rodin and Constantion Brancusi by reducing figures to their most simplified form. He was known to be linked to the Vorticist group, a British art movement of the early 20th century. Without a doubt, he would have become a master, the fate decided differently, but he left us a rich and imaginative oeuvre. (source: The 20th Century Artbook - ed. Phaidon.)
