Punk Art
David Négri, forty years old, was born in Marseille, a city which sticks with him perfectly.
Marseille is the city of the small jobs, of resourcefulness, of a life of Bohemia, of long breaks in the terraces of the cafés, of the cosmopolitanism, a city of art and constant artistic events. It is in this multicultural context and with his artist friends that David approaches the painting.
Quickly, he decides to go to New York to improve his art and meets there very determining people. He is welcomed by Jerry Foust in a workshop - building of the districts of Soho (today the ' GREENHOUSE GALLERY) who introduces him to the " Jungle "movement, a group of about thirty creators who have the 'factory spirit', we can name among others, Johnny Le Valley (to read the blog, click here )'.
From this American adventure, he comes back with a style influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat & the culture underground, between figurative art, pop art, raw art... the punk art.

Skunkdog
Poet, dreamer and humble, David appeared to me as a light artist (lover of life and all its constituents) although his painting reflects some wounds which he is careful not to reveal.
His representational expressions, his deformed beings, his lines drawn by thick drips add to his art a disconcerting sensualism.
He uses lively colors, strong expressions, He positions skillfully his characters, painting from the back or facing us, they seem inhabited of an incredibly intimate strength.
Skunkdog has, doubtless, a power which he will soon spread.

Three questions to Skunkdog
Why ? Simply because the painting represents for me a continuation of my childhood. Since I'm a kid, I express myself by the drawing, if we deprived me my pencils and my exercise books I became crazy. Through the painting, I am in a world of colors and forms directly connected to my childhood, I tend ceaselessly to find the same emotions, because these feelings, that I also look for in the music, make me continue and develop my art.
.
How do you describe your art ? My painting is a link between my European art culture with its classical artists, impressionist painters of the 19th and 20th century and my urban and underground culture, an union between Marseille and New York.
.
Are you a rebellious artist ? Yes but without a precise cause, I refuse to have a political position, alike a James Dean character (laugh!!!). Of course, I am chocked or sadenned by subjects that make me feel like shouting, I then express it through my creations.
