Born 1941 to a Caucasian father and an Alsatian mother, Jeantimir lived a life that did not spare
him of many a misfortune.
His drawings and paintings started to flow from his fingers so spontaneaously that they have sometimes been
classified as "Outsider Art" (see also Dubuffet). His exact line and the hidden fragility give strange and contradictory qualities to his work: Lightness, a tender and ridiculous humour, a strong grotesque.
The numerous texts that accompany his works fit perfectly to the colours and expressions, completing the theatrical impression.
All elements of the paintings play a small but complete act, often tragicomical scenes that one imagines being played not necessarily in a theater but rather on the street or in a public place.
The works speak an intimate language to us and are capable of making us smile or reminding us of our emotional wounds.
It would be wrong to simply classify Jeantimir in the drawer of Outsider Art.
True, he is an autodidact in painting, but there is much more: He offers a touch of grace that carries light and clarity with the force of the satirical into our little miseries.
