Marcello Modica

Marcello Modica was born in Milan in 1987 and lives in Varedo (Milan). He followed a scientific and technological training, obtained his diploma in July 2006 and entered to the faculty of industrial chemistry in Milan.

"Impassioned by the history of the decline of industrial factories, it is in these places abandoned and forgotten by all that Marcello will take his first photographic steps... He will "search for life where it doesn't seem to be". The recurring topics of his work are the industrial decline, the culture of industry, the architecture, the notion of time...

He transforms abandoned places, disused factories under our eyes and gives them again life and beauty thanks to an incredible play of light and a great sensitivity. He photographs power stations, psychiatric hospitals, factories, workshops of any kind, pays attention to details: pieces of iron, tools. He focuses on entries and exits, walls, staircases, windows, all these points of light or all those from which the light comes and catches objects left on the spot which testify of the passage of men.

His photographs are touching, sometimes full of color and joy, sometimes with dark tonalities, but I always look at them with hope because what he says to us through his work is purely and simply "Still Alive ", and I like that! "Cendrine Galipot

"Particularly sensitive to the details and the environments suspended out of time, Marcello Modica transformed, with the knowledge of the black and the white, the exaltation of the forms and the colors, and knew to extrapolate the life... its research widens with the area of Milan, then with the septentrional areas of Italy for finally arriving to Belgium and Germany. Its untiring objective fires in a sublime way all heart the one time."
